Pat was born and raised in Thunder Bay and has lived in the city for most of his life. He received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Ottawa University in 1988 and began his career with Price Waterhouse in Ottawa before returning to his hometown. He received the designation of Chartered Accountant in 1991.

Over the following years, Pat worked exclusively in the public accounting field with both local and national public accounting firms. He has a wide range of experience in accounting, tax and business advisory services with the main focus on smaller owner-managed businesses.

In 1998, Pat and John formed Luft Charlebois Chartered Accountants. With a small staff and some loyal clients, they would soon make some strategic acquisitions, welcome additional staff and partners and become LCPS Chartered Professional Accountants, one of the largest locally owned and independent accounting firms in the region.

In recent years, Pat turned his attention to the burgeoning field of cloud-based accounting applications. Cloud-based technologies, along with remote working, expanded significantly as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and so, in 2021, Pat decided to dedicate his entire practice to businesses that use these applications and transition to a home-based office.

Today, Pat tries to maintain a fairly steady work-from-home routine. He has relinquished most client and administrative responsibilities at LCPS but remains in close contact with the partners and staff. He continues to work with some LCPS clients as an associate of the firm while also operating an independent practice with clients who use cloud-based accounting systems.
